Peak serum 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (25OHD) levels are lower in individuals with a higher body mass index (BMI).

  • Serum 25OHD levels increased significantly in all groups after a single oral dose of cholecalciferol.
  • Individuals with higher BMI showed lower peak serum 25OHD levels, likely due to distribution in a larger body volume.
  • The decline in serum 25OHD levels after peaking was significantly slower in overweight and obese individuals compared to normal weight participants.
  • There was a weakly significant negative correlation between fat mass and baseline 25OHD levels, which became strongly significant after cholecalciferol loading.
