Comparing 5 Days of Multiple Daily Targeted Brain Stimulation Sessions with 6 Weeks of Standard Brain Stimulation for Depression

Abstract

A total of 108 patients will participate in a trial comparing two treatments for treatment-resistant depression (TRD).

  • The PAiT protocol involves 50 sessions over 5 days, while standard 10 Hz rTMS includes 30 sessions over 6 weeks.
  • Both treatments target the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex but use different techniques for identifying target locations.
  • The study aims to determine if PAiT is more cost-effective than standard 10 Hz rTMS in treating TRD.
  • Patients will undergo functional MRI scans before and after treatment to assess cognitive and emotional changes.
  • Follow-up assessments are planned at 7, 12, 26, and 31 weeks to evaluate treatment effects and participation outcomes.
