Effects of 8 Weeks of Short Exercise Sessions on Muscle Oxygen Use, Heart and Metabolism Health, Mitochondria, and Early Artery Disease Signs in Inactive Women

Sedentary women exhibited reduced cholesterol and increased insulin levels, which were improved following daily 12-minute exercise snacks for 8 weeks.

  • Cholesterol, LDL, and antioxidant capacity decreased significantly after the exercise intervention.
  • Insulin levels were reduced, indicating improved metabolic health.
  • Sedentary women showed increased grip strength after the exercise snacks.
  • Heart rates, both resting and maximal, were elevated in sedentary women but improved with exercise, although resting heart rate remained higher compared to physically active participants.
  • Gene expression related to mitochondrial dynamics and autophagy was altered favorably in sedentary women after the exercise intervention.
