Five randomized controlled trials with 764 participants showed no statistically significant effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists on substance-use outcomes.

  • No significant reduction was observed in days without alcohol consumption, averaging a difference of -1.96 days.
  • Cigarettes smoked per day decreased by an average of -0.55, but this change was not statistically significant.
  • Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence scores showed an average increase of 0.02, indicating no meaningful change.
  • Risk-of-bias assessment identified three trials as low risk and two with some concerns.
  • Evidence certainty was rated from low to moderate, highlighting limitations in the findings.
