Combined gene and protein analysis suggests ABI3BP plays a role in osteoarthritis development

Updated

Abstract

Twenty-four significantly altered genes and proteins were identified, including ABI3BP, which is upregulated in osteoarthritis (OA) cartilage.

  • ABI3BP, along with TGFBI, ANOS1, S100A4, and TNFAIP6, was found to be upregulated, while METTL7A was downregulated in OA cartilage.
  • Pathways related to extracellular matrix organization and receptor interactions were significantly enriched in the analysis.
  • Knockdown of ABI3BP reduced the levels of markers associated with cellular aging and mitigated degradation of the extracellular matrix in response to inflammation.
  • These findings suggest that ABI3BP may play a critical role in both chondrocyte aging and the maintenance of cartilage health.
