Essence

Accelerated biological aging was linked to higher age-related eye disease risk, especially in people with high genetic susceptibility.

Evidence

A UK Biobank cohort analysis of 297,375 participants plus integrative genetic pleiotropy analysis associated with baseline and incident , shorter vision-healthy life expectancy, 115 pleiotropic variants, and 512 candidate genes.

Caveat

The observational and genetic analyses do not prove that slowing biological aging would prevent eye disease or validate the candidate genes as intervention targets.
