Abstract
Older epigenetic age and shorter telomere lengths are significantly associated with diabetic kidney disease in type 1 diabetes.
- Epigenetic age acceleration (EAA) may be linked to the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD).
- Progression from normolbuminuria to severely increased albuminuria is associated with increased EAA.
- Age, epigenetic age, and EAA are significant predictors of progression to end-stage kidney disease.
- Findings support the potential development of epigenetic biomarkers for predicting DKD onset and progression.
