Faster full-depth skin wound healing using self-linked chitosan hydrogel films strengthened with silver nanoparticle-stabilized emulsions to deliver quercetin

Updated

Abstract

CS-PE-Qu films demonstrated a significant improvement in wound closure rate compared to CS, CS-Qu, and CS-blank PE in a mouse model.

  • The films are made from chitosan infused with an oil-in-water emulsion containing quercetin and stabilized by silver nanoparticles.
  • Self-crosslinking occurs due to the interaction between aldehyde groups of the stabilizer and amino groups of chitosan.
  • The addition of glycerol affects the films' extensibility, swelling ratio, and drug release characteristics.
  • CS-PE-Qu films exhibited high biocompatibility and enhanced migration of skin cells involved in wound healing.
  • Histological analysis showed improved tissue regeneration in mice treated with CS-PE-Qu films.
