How Well Probiotics Are Accepted, Tolerated, and May Help When Added to Depression Treatment

Abstract

Of 50 participants, 49 received the intervention with an attrition rate of 8%.

  • 80% of participants were female, with a mean age of 31.7 years.
  • Participants taking probiotics showed greater improvements in depressive symptoms as measured by HAMD-17 and IDS scores compared to the placebo group.
  • The probiotic group also experienced greater reductions in anxiety symptoms based on HAMA scores, while GAD-7 scores showed no significant difference.
  • Adherence to the probiotic intervention was high at 97.2%, and no serious adverse reactions were reported.
