Use of GLP-1 Diabetes Drugs Linked to Fewer Surgical Complications Across Different Body Weights

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Active GLP-1 receptor agonist prescriptions were linked to lower postoperative readmission and wound dehiscence in diabetic surgical patients across BMI groups.

Evidence

This retrospective observational cohort analyzed 72,578 surgical procedures in 21,544 diabetic patients, stratified by BMI and compared by active GLP-1 RA prescription status.

Caveat

Because treatment was not randomized and GLP-1 RA users had higher mean A1C, residual confounding and prescription-based exposure limits causal claims about wound healing.
