What affects daily living skills in older adults with dementia living at home

Updated

Abstract

The mean activities of daily living (ADLs) score of 10.24±3.52 indicates dependency among older adults with dementia.

  • Dependency in performing ADLs, particularly with toilet use and bowel/bladder control, worsened significantly after one year.
  • Increased dependency in ADLs is associated with vascular dementia and greater dementia severity.
  • Data included 186 community-dwelling older adults with dementia in Korea, with 63 individuals followed for 12 months.
