Acupuncture's impact on copper-related cell death in the damaged brain area after stroke in rats

Updated

Abstract

Acupuncture may significantly reduce the volume percentage of cerebral infarction in rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

  • The model group exhibited increased neurological severity scores and a higher volume percentage of cerebral infarction compared to the sham operation group.
  • Acupuncture treatment resulted in a decrease in neurological severity scores and cerebral infarction volume compared to the model group.
  • Levels of copper ions, mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes, and heat shock protein 70 were significantly altered in the model group, indicating cellular stress.
  • Acupuncture was associated with increased expressions of cuproptosis marker proteins, FDX1 and LIAS, which were decreased in the model group.
  • Mitochondrial damage was observed in the model group, with milder abnormalities noted in the acupuncture group.
