Abstract

Acupuncture may improve cerebral injury in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) rats by inactivating the KAT3B/ACSL4 pathway.

  • CIRI rats showed significant increases in neurological deficit score, cerebral infarction volume, and blood-brain barrier permeability compared to the sham operation group.
  • Histopathological assessments indicated neuronal damage, including cell necrosis and increased apoptosis in the model group.
  • Increased levels of reactive oxygen species, ferrous iron, lipid peroxidation, and malondialdehyde were observed in the ischemic cerebral tissue of the model group.
  • Acupuncture and western medicine groups demonstrated reversal of neurological deficits and histopathological changes compared to the model group, with no significant difference between the two treatments.
  • Acupuncture is associated with a reduction in ferroptosis and ferritinophagy in the ischemic cerebral cortex.
