Acupuncture’s effects on kidney cell recycling and related molecular signals in diabetic kidney disease rats

Updated

Abstract

Acupuncture significantly reduced urinary protein levels in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) rats.

  • The model group showed increased fasting blood glucose, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and urinary protein compared to the control group.
  • Acupuncture improved these parameters in the acupuncture group, indicating better renal function.
  • Podocyte injury markers and podocyte apoptosis were higher in the model group, while acupuncture reduced both markers.
  • Compared to the control group, the model group had decreased podocyte autophagosomes, while acupuncture increased these structures.
  • The expression of proteins involved in autophagy and renal function was altered favorably in the acupuncture group compared to the model group.
  • The expression of long non-coding RNA SOX2OT was lower in the model group and increased with acupuncture treatment.
