Ebola vaccine schedule with booster at 1 year versus 2 years in health workers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: secondary results from a phase 2 trial

Updated

Abstract

Ebola virus glycoprotein-specific IgG binding antibody levels increased to 10,781.6 ELISA units per mL after booster vaccination.

  • Before booster vaccination, antibody levels were 279.9 ELISA units per mL in participants boosted at 1 year and 274.6 ELISA units per mL in those boosted at 2 years after the first dose.
  • Antibody levels before booster vaccination were approximately 5 times higher than those observed on day 1 of vaccination.
  • One week after the booster, antibody levels in both groups were approximately 39 times higher than before booster vaccination.
  • A GMC of 2133.1 ELISA units per mL was still present one year after booster vaccination in participants boosted at 1 year.
  • Common solicited adverse events included injection-site pain or tenderness and headache, occurring in about 27% and 29% of participants, respectively.
