Adapting and testing a Chinese digital addiction scale for children

Updated

Abstract

A total of 592 students aged 12.8 years participated in validating the Chinese version of the Scale for Children (DASC).

  • The Chinese DASC consists of 24 items, with one item excluded due to cross-loading.
  • Two dimensions were identified: interpersonal (19 items) and intrapersonal (5 items), reflecting different aspects of digital addiction.
  • The scale showed acceptable convergent validity with a correlation of r = 0.83, indicating strong agreement with Young's Internet Addiction Test.
  • Reliability metrics were high, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.95 for internal consistency and an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.71 for test-retest reliability.
  • The suggested cut-off score for identifying at-risk individuals is 53, achieving a sensitivity of 85.9% and specificity of 92.3%.
