How Aerobic Exercise Amounts Relate to Weight Loss in Adults

Abstract

Each additional 30 minutes of aerobic exercise per week is associated with a reduction in body weight by 0.52 kg.

  • Aerobic exercise is linked to a decrease in waist circumference by 0.56 cm.
  • Body fat percentage is reduced by 0.37% with increased aerobic activity.
  • Improvements in visceral and subcutaneous fat areas are noted, with reductions of 1.60 cm² and 1.37 cm², respectively.
  • Participants experienced modest improvements in both physical and mental aspects of quality of life.
  • There was an association with mild to moderate adverse events, primarily musculoskeletal symptoms.
  • Longer durations of aerobic exercise, up to 300 minutes per week, may lead to greater reductions in body weight and fat.
