Abstract

CUMS for 35 days significantly increased serum cortisol and pro-inflammatory cytokines.

  • Chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) is associated with systemic inflammation as indicated by elevated serum inflammatory cytokines.
  • Liver tissue showed increased levels of IL-6 and IL-1β, suggesting a localized inflammatory response.
  • Oxidative stress was evidenced by impaired antioxidant defense and heightened lipid peroxidation.
  • Histopathological changes included intestinal villus degeneration and reduced goblet cell numbers, while the colon showed milder alterations.
  • Alamandine treatment reduced inflammatory and oxidative responses and improved the integrity of the intestinal mucosa.
