Alizarin Protects Against Liver and Kidney Damage from Paracetamol in Mice

Updated

Abstract

ALZ administration significantly alleviated elevated biochemical indicators associated with Paracetamol-induced liver and kidney toxicity in mice.

  • ALZ reduced levels of liver and kidney injury markers, including ALT, AST, BUN, ALP, and creatinine.
  • Lipid peroxidation was decreased and antioxidant levels were improved following ALZ treatment, indicated by reduced MDA and increased GSH, SOD, and CAT.
  • ALZ increased mRNA expression of protective factors HO-1, Nrf2, and Bcl-2, while decreasing expression of pro-apoptotic factors Bax, NFκB, Cas-3, and TNF-α.
  • Protein expression levels of Bax, Nrf2, Bcl-2, and Cas-3 were also regulated by ALZ in the context of Paracetamol administration.
  • Histopathological assessments showed that ALZ mitigated tissue damage in the liver and kidneys caused by Paracetamol.
