How Alkaloids from Portulacae Herba May Help Ulcerative Colitis in Mice Through the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB Immune Pathway

Updated

Abstract

A total of 35 mice were used to investigate the effects of alkaloids from Portulacae Herba on ulcerative colitis.

  • Mice with ulcerative colitis exhibited significant weight loss, increased disease activity index scores, and shortened colon length.
  • Elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1β were found in the serum of model group mice.
  • Protein and gene expression of TLR4, MyD88, and NF-κB were significantly increased in the colon tissue of the model group.
  • Treatment with alkaloids from Portulacae Herba improved symptoms and reduced weight loss in the treated mice.
  • Alkaloid treatment also decreased disease activity index scores, alleviated colon shortening, and lowered serum levels of TNF-α and IL-1β.
  • The expression levels of TLR4, MyD88, and NF-κB proteins and genes were significantly down-regulated in the colon tissue of treated mice.
