Timing of Blood Pressure Medicine Doses in Patients with High Blood Pressure and Irregular Heartbeats
Updated
Abstract
Hypertensive patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation showed significant reductions in 24-hour blood pressure with treatment using telmisartan/amlodipine combination tablets.
- Blood pressure levels, including nighttime and preawake measurements, were significantly reduced with treatment.
- The antihypertensive effects were similar whether the medication was taken in the morning or at bedtime.
- Variability in home systolic blood pressure decreased, including both day-to-day fluctuations and maximum recorded values.
- N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide levels were significantly reduced only in patients who took the medication at bedtime.
- Further research is needed to determine if bedtime dosing can further reduce the risk of atrial fibrillation recurrence.
