Updated

Abstract

A total of 4598 publications were identified, with a network meta-analysis including 137 studies and 2512 animals.

  • The five most studied natural products for obesity were berberine, resveratrol, quercetin, anthocyanins, and curcumin.
  • All five natural products significantly reduced body weight compared to control groups.
  • Berberine had the highest probability ranking for reducing body weight (92.2%), epididymal white adipose tissue (96.3%), and increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (82.1%).
  • Anthocyanins ranked highest for total cholesterol reduction, while resveratrol ranked highest for fasting blood glucose and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.
  • Meta-regression indicated that the route of administration may significantly affect several outcomes.
