Comparing the timing of blood pressure medicine and its impact on heart and blood vessel health

Updated

Abstract

Five randomized controlled trials involving 46,477 participants were included in the analysis.

  • Partial bedtime dosing (PBD) is associated with lower cardiovascular event rates compared to morning dosing, with a hazard ratio of 0.43.
  • Full bedtime dosing (FBD) also shows lower cardiovascular event rates than morning dosing, with a hazard ratio of 0.55.
  • PBD received the highest favorable ranking for cardiovascular outcomes, followed by FBD, frail bedtime dosing, evening dosing, and pragmatic bedtime dosing.
  • The network analysis indicated a star-shaped geometry, suggesting limitations in assessing consistency among the treatment comparisons.
  • Two studies were identified as having a high overall risk of bias, while others had some concerns regarding their methodology.
