A total of 23 articles were reviewed, revealing that olanzapine is linked to significant increases in triglyceride levels compared to placebo.

  • Olanzapine and quetiapine were associated with increased triglyceride levels, with median differences of 37 mg/dL and 21.58 mg/dL, respectively.
  • Total cholesterol levels increased with asenapine, quetiapine, and olanzapine, with median differences ranging from 9.1 mg/dL to 20.47 mg/dL.
  • No significant differences in glucose levels were found among the antipsychotics or placebo.
  • Lurasidone, molindone, and ziprasidone demonstrated better tolerance concerning weight gain.
  • More than half of the reviews (56.5%) were rated as very low quality according to the AMSTAR 2 scoring system.
  • Most meta-analyses were classified as level 4 evidence due to limited sample sizes.
