Testing the Arabic Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale with Tunisian Teenagers

Abstract

A total of 1399 participants completed the study, with 71.8% reporting non-problematic Facebook use.

  • Among the 1353 students using Facebook, the median addiction score was 13, with a range from 6 to 30.
  • Participants reported spending a median of 3 hours per day on Facebook.
  • The internal consistency of the Arabic version of the Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale was strong, with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.87.
  • Higher scores on the Facebook addiction scale were significantly associated with increased addiction to video games.
  • Students with higher Facebook addiction scores also reported significantly higher levels of depression.
