Abstract

Significant cognitive impairment and neuronal loss were induced by STZ-ICV administration in a rat model of Alzheimer's disease.

  • The combined treatment of artemisinin, N-acetylcysteine, resveratrol, and hesperidin showed partial improvement in cognitive performance.
  • Reductions in amyloid-β deposition and tau phosphorylation were observed following treatment.
  • Caspase-3 expression, associated with apoptosis, decreased in treated rats.
  • Neuronal preservation in the hippocampus was improved with the combined compound administration.
  • Further studies are necessary to assess pharmacokinetics, safety, and the applicability of these findings in clinical settings.
