Resting Oxytocin Levels During Labor Induction and Their Link to Delivery Method in First-Time Mothers

Updated

Abstract

Among 1,193 eligible patients, 22.4% underwent an oxytocin rest lasting at least 1 hour.

  • The odds of cesarean delivery decrease with longer durations of oxytocin rest: 1.12 for less than 1 hour, 0.78 for 1-2 hours, 0.60 for 2-8 hours, and 0.43 for 8 hours or more.
  • No association was found between oxytocin rest exceeding 8 hours and increased maternal or neonatal morbidity.
  • Oxytocin rest may serve as a clinical tool to potentially lower cesarean delivery rates in women experiencing protracted latent labor.
