Link Between Overall Artery Hardening Near Blood Pressure Sensors and Daily Heart Rate Changes in Stroke Patients

Updated

Abstract

Each 1-point increase in total atherosclerosis burden of baroreceptor-resident arteries is associated with a 1.67 ms decrease in 24-hour heart rate variability.

  • Impaired cardiac autonomic regulation is suggested by the association between higher atherosclerosis burden and reduced heart rate variability.
  • A nonlinear relationship exists between total atherosclerosis burden and heart rate variability measures.
  • Adding aortic arch atherosclerosis burden to carotid sinus burden improves the model fit for heart rate variability.
  • Circadian heart rate variability amplitude is lower in patients with intermediate and high atherosclerosis burden compared to those with low burden.
