Abstract

Arabidopsis NBR1 (AtNBR1) is implicated in recognizing non-ubiquitinated cargo proteins and undergoing (LLPS) during autophagy.

  • Both the ZZ-type zinc finger motif and the four-tryptophan domain of AtNBR1 are involved in recognizing non-ubiquitinated cargo proteins.
  • AtNBR1 undergoes LLPS before the formation of autophagosomes mediated by ATG8.
  • The ability of AtNBR1 to undergo LLPS is crucial for heat stress resistance in Arabidopsis.
  • AtNBR1 exhibits dual roles in cargo recognition and LLPS during plant autophagy, differing from the functions of NBR1 and SQSTM1 in metazoans.
