Body automatic responses, blood flow regulation, and movement-thinking coordination in Long COVID and chronic fatigue syndrome

Updated

Abstract

ME/CFS patients may show impaired cerebrovascular control compared to Long COVID patients.

  • ME/CFS and Long COVID share similar symptoms and autonomic dysfunction.
  • Both groups were similar to healthy controls regarding resting vascular function.
  • ME/CFS exhibited greater reduction in cerebrovascular resistance and impaired autoregulation during increased carbon dioxide levels.
  • Long COVID patients showed reduced oxygen levels and less vagal response when upright.
  • Differences in symptoms may relate to severity or unique aspects of COVID-19.
