Chronic hyperglycemia leads to a decreased LC3I/II ratio and increased p62 accumulation in neurons.

  • Impaired autophagic flux in neurons is linked to diabetic neuropathy.
  • Alterations in signaling pathways, such as mTOR activation and AMPK inhibition, are observed.
  • Dysregulation of autophagy-related transcription factors, including TFEB, FOXO3, and NRF2, is noted.
  • A novel relationship between autophagy impairment and lipid metabolism dysregulation is identified.
  • These findings suggest a potential vicious cycle contributing to neuronal dysfunction.
