Single Ayahuasca dose may reverse long-term stress effects on social behavior, anxiety, stress hormone, and brain growth factor in zebrafish

Updated

Abstract

Essence

A single ayahuasca exposure reversed stress-related social, anxiety-like, cortisol, and BDNF changes in adult zebrafish.

Evidence

An animal experiment used a 14-day unpredictable chronic stress zebrafish model, 1-hour AYA exposure at 0.5 or 1 mL/L, behavioral tests, and ELISA biomarkers.

Caveat

Findings come from zebrafish behavior and whole-body or whole-brain markers, not clinical outcomes in chronically stressed humans.
