Increased backward communication in the third visual pathway after paired brain stimulation

Updated

Abstract

ccPAS enhanced backward functional connectivity within the posterior superior temporal sulcus (pSTS) to early visual cortex (V1/V2) pathway immediately after stimulation and persisted for 30 minutes.

  • Backward connectivity between pSTS and V1/V2 was significantly enhanced following ccPAS.
  • The effects of ccPAS on backward connectivity persisted for at least 30 minutes post-stimulation.
  • An increase in forward connectivity was observed 30 minutes after ccPAS, suggesting compensatory mechanisms.
  • Findings indicate that ccPAS can transiently and selectively modulate directional connectivity in a visual pathway associated with processing social and emotional information.
  • Improvements in emotion recognition following ccPAS may be linked to these changes in connectivity.
