Hydrogel dressing with berberine and silver nanoparticles that controls immune response and prevents biofilms helps heal wounds with drug-resistant bacterial infections

Updated

Abstract

The novel Ber@AgNPs@CHI hydrogel shows enhanced therapeutic efficacy in a murine model of MRSA skin infection.

  • This hydrogel effectively eradicates MRSA and prevents biofilm formation.
  • It modulates the local immune environment by promoting the transition of macrophages from the M1 to M2 type.
  • Increased production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is observed.
  • These effects support the transition of wounds from the inflammatory phase to the proliferative phase.
  • The hydrogel may provide a multifaceted approach to treating chronic MRSA-infected wounds.
