Bifidobacteria and fiber improve thinking by boosting helpful gut bacteria and lowering inflammation

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Bifidobacteria plus inulin was linked to cognitive improvement through more short-chain fatty acid-producing gut bacteria and lower inflammation signals.

Evidence

This follow-up multi-omics analysis of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in elderly participants combined blood inflammatory-marker assays with fecal metagenomic profiling.

Caveat

The strongest inflammation decrease was reported in the subgroup with greater cognitive-score improvement, so the mechanistic link remains subgroup-based and associative.
