Biochemical Changes and Shorter Cell Aging Markers in Javanese Macaques Linked to Social Isolation

Abstract

A statistically significant decrease in telomere length was observed in male Javanese macaques after 60 days of social isolation.

  • Telomere length decreased significantly (p = 0.0062) following isolation.
  • Malondialdehyde concentration and catalase activity also decreased significantly (p < 0.01).
  • Superoxide dismutase activity and cortisol levels increased significantly (p < 0.05).
  • Testosterone levels showed a decreasing trend, while thyroglobulin levels increased.
  • These changes suggest systemic alterations in response to social isolation.
