Data from 4,018 participants indicate that higher epigenetic age is associated with accelerated declines in cognitive function, grip strength, and walking speed.

  • Older epigenetic age, as measured by the Hannum clock, is linked to faster cognitive decline.
  • The DNAmGrimAge clock is associated with a more rapid decline in grip strength.
  • Higher DNAmGrimAge is also connected to decreased walking speed over time.
  • Analysis suggests that specific epigenetic clocks may reveal patterns related to age-related functional decline.
