- Genomic instability, defective macroautophagy, and mitochondrial dysfunction are identified as significant hallmarks of aging cells.
- These hallmarks provide insights into the causes of both rare and common age-associated diseases.
- Emerging evidence suggests that improving NAD+ availability may stimulate mitochondrial autophagy, known as mitophagy.
- Mitophagy is proposed as a potential therapeutic strategy for addressing diseases related to aging.
