Engineered carriers deliver mRNA to skin for healing and regeneration

Abstract

RNA-BEVs induced transient protein expression throughout reconstructed epidermis after topical administration.

  • Biologically Engineered Vectors (BEVs) are defined as delivery particles created through genetic or cellular engineering.
  • RNA-BEVs were developed specifically for the purpose of delivering mRNA to the skin.
  • Functional mRNA was efficiently delivered to keratinocytes using RNA-BEVs.
  • RNA-BEVs improved the histological quality of skin repair compared to traditional mRNA-loaded lipid nanoparticles in a diabetic rat wound model.
  • This approach may provide a new method for localized transient RNA delivery in regenerative medicine.
