Blood pressure changes during quitting smoking in a controlled trial of dulaglutide treatment

Updated

Abstract

Systolic blood pressure remained stable over 52 weeks after smoking cessation, despite an average weight gain of 3 kg.

  • Blood pressure reductions were observed in participants with minimal weight gain of ≤3 kg, averaging -4.6 mmHg.
  • Participants with hypertensive blood pressure values at baseline experienced a significant reduction of -16 mmHg.
  • Dulaglutide treatment initially decreased both body weight and blood pressure, followed by a rebound in weight and a subsequent increase in blood pressure of +7.5 mmHg at Week 52.
  • Weight change was identified as an important factor influencing blood pressure changes during smoking cessation.
