Links between common variations in key body clock genes and metabolic syndrome and blood sugar traits in a Turkish population

Updated

Abstract

The GC genotype of the CRY1 rs2287161 polymorphism was significantly more frequent in patients with metabolic syndrome compared to healthy controls (p = 0.009).

  • The CRY1 rs2287161 GC genotype is associated with an increased risk of metabolic syndrome, with an adjusted odds ratio of 0.381.
  • No significant differences were found in the genotype distributions of BMAL1 rs7950226 and CLOCK rs1801260 between metabolic syndrome and control groups.
  • Individuals with the BMAL1 rs7950226 AA genotype had higher fasting plasma glucose levels compared to those with GA and GG genotypes (p = 0.039).
  • An altered distribution of the CRY1 rs2287161 polymorphism was noted in this Turkish cohort, indicating its potential relevance to metabolic syndrome risk.
  • The findings suggest that core circadian genes may play a role in metabolic regulation among patients with metabolic syndrome.
