Improving bone healing by using SDF-1α to attract stem cells with BMP-2

Updated

Abstract

Combined treatment with BMP-2 and SDF-1α resulted in a bone volume increase of 2.72 mm³ compared to 1.80 mm³ in the control group.

  • The combination of BMP-2 and SDF-1α enhanced bone healing compared to a negative control group.
  • Bioluminescence imaging indicated that more mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) migrated to the defect site when both BMP-2 and SDF-1α were present.
  • Histological analysis revealed a greater degree of bone healing in the group receiving both BMP-2 and SDF-1α.
  • A higher ratio of osteoblasts to osteoclasts was observed with the combined protein treatment, suggesting increased bone formation.
  • Both BMP-2 and SDF-1α alone also attracted MSCs to the injury site, demonstrating their cumulative effects.
