The Brain-Gut Health Initiative: A Long-Term Study of Mental Health Disorders in China

Updated

Abstract

Essence

BIGHI is a Chinese longitudinal cohort built to map microbiota-gut-brain patterns across major psychiatric disorders.

Evidence

Prospective cohort and research resource data include over 1,200 participants with schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and healthy controls with clinical, EEG, MRI, blood biomarker, and gut microbiome measures.

Caveat

The reported brain-gut patterns remain observational and heterogeneous, with cohort expansion, harmonization, and clinical translation still planned.
