Changes in brain network organization in mild depression

Updated

Abstract

Patients with subthreshold depression (StD) exhibited contracted network hierarchy and reduced gradient scores in the default mode network compared to healthy controls.

  • StD patients showed suppressed cortical range gradients in their brain networks.
  • In the default mode network, significant reductions in gradient scores were observed, particularly in the precuneus, superior temporal gyrus, and anterior and posterior cingulate gyrus.
  • Lower gradient scores in the default mode network and specific brain regions were correlated with increased severity of depressive symptoms.
  • Altered network hierarchy in StD may provide insights into the neural mechanisms underlying depressive symptoms.
