Cannabidiol nanoparticles may protect the brain and gut in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease caused by rotenone

Updated

Abstract

Rotenone treatment caused a 38-47% reduction in glutathione levels in the striatum of rats.

  • Rotenone increased α-synuclein accumulation in the striatum and duodenum, indicating potential neurodegenerative processes.
  • Elevated levels of glial activation markers GFAP and IBA1 were observed following rotenone treatment.
  • Oxidative stress markers, such as nitrite levels and lipid peroxidation, were significantly increased in the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and striatum due to rotenone.
  • Cannabidiol (CBDne) treatment normalized oxidative stress markers and restored glutathione levels to control levels.
  • Behavioral improvements and reduced weight loss were noted in rats treated with CBDne.
