Cannabidiol with usual treatment versus usual treatment alone for emotional exhaustion and burnout in frontline health workers during COVID-19

Abstract

Scores on the emotional exhaustion subscale significantly decreased in the treatment group at day 14, day 21, and day 28.

  • Participants receiving CBD therapy (300 mg daily) showed a significant reduction in emotional exhaustion symptoms compared to those receiving standard care alone.
  • Mean differences in emotional exhaustion scores were 4.14 points at day 14, 4.34 points at day 21, and 4.01 points at day 28.
  • Of the 120 participants randomized, 118 completed the intervention and were included in the efficacy analysis.
  • Five participants in the treatment group experienced serious adverse events, including elevated liver enzymes and severe skin reactions.
  • CBD therapy was associated with improvements in burnout symptoms, but the potential for adverse effects must be considered.
