Day-to-night changes in heart and nervous system control linked to melatonin start time in healthy adults

Updated

Abstract

CV onset times for all indices did not differ significantly from DLMO (p > 0.05).

  • DLMO was determined by the time melatonin levels increased over 3 pg/mL.
  • Phase angle measured the alignment of sleep-wake patterns with biological circadian rhythms.
  • CV onset times were identified through a piecewise analysis of cardiovascular data.
  • Mean differences between DLMO and CV onset time showed a significant correlation with the phase angle of entrainment (r > +0.75).
  • The findings indicate that CV autonomic transition into biological night was not associated with DLMO.
