Long-Term Heart and Blood Vessel Effects of COVID-19 in Children and the Need for Monitoring

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Children with prior COVID-19 showed persistent subclinical cardiac strain changes and some long-COVID symptoms up to one year later.

Evidence

This prospective case-control study compared children aged 4-17 years with confirmed prior COVID-19 against healthy unexposed controls using echocardiography with global longitudinal strain, biochemical testing, and symptom surveys.

Caveat

Conventional echocardiographic indices and lipid profiles did not differ between groups, and the abstract does not report sample size or baseline matching details.
