Kvβ2 (AKR6) helps convert carbonyl chemicals in oxidized PAPC

Updated

Abstract

Kvβ2 catalyzed the reduction of several products of oxidized phospholipids, with significant levels of reduced products detected at m/z 594/596, 810/812, and 828/830 (p<0.01).

  • Kvβ2 is associated with the enzymatic activity of reducing oxidized phospholipids generated during lipid oxidation.
  • The specific oxidized phospholipid substrates identified include 1-palmitoyl-2-(5-oxovaleroyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine, 1-palmitoyl-2-(epoxycyclopentenone)-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine, and 1-palmitoyl-2-(5,6)-epoxyisoprostane E2-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine.
  • Time course analysis demonstrated that the reduced products reached significant levels in the oxPAPC+Kvβ2 mixture.
  • These findings indicate that Kvβ2 could function as a sensor for lipid oxidation and may influence Kv channel activity during oxidative stress.
