Lower levels of CCL25 in spinal fluid are linked to more fatigue in chronic pain patients

Abstract

Thirty-one cytokines showed significant correlations between cerebrospinal fluid and serum levels.

  • BBB permeability was significantly correlated with the levels of 35 cytokines in serum and CSF.
  • Several cytokines were negatively correlated with both pain at rest and general fatigue.
  • No correlations were found between sleep disturbance and cytokine levels.
  • Network analyses revealed functional clusters of cytokines associated with fatigue in both serum and CSF.
  • CCL25 in CSF was identified as a significant contributor to general fatigue.
